I have some friends who lives in England and I want to make calls sometime. I want to know if there are any plans for verizon users that can let me make international calls at a fix rate, or at least not costing that much. I really don’t like calling cards either.

Ok, I searched online for the charges for an international call to the UK, and everywhere I looked, it was either 9 cents a minute, or 33 cents a minute. I was okay with the rates, and I called my friend in England. I talked for 34 minutes, and when my mom got the bill today, it was for $112! I mean, SERIOUSLY! Now she says the money’s coming out of my pocket, and that I should’ve researched the price before calling! I DID! But she didn’t believe me…..

Now I’m afraid that if we call AT&T, they’ll throw a fit and that’ll make them not do a thing about the price!

I want to talk to my friend again, and I don’t want to be charged this much EVER!

I was thinking of Vonage, since we have DSL, and calls to the UK are free, but I’m not sure. My mom’s not too fond of the idea, because she thinks it’ll be a ripoff!

I need help, guys…please, only serious answers, and not “AT&T *****!” or “Too bad for you!”…..I already know these things…
ok I looked at the rates and it the thing is, I called AFTER 1 PM…..so it should be the OFF Peak rate… if in UK time it was between 7AM and 1PM, then maybe, but it WASN’T! It was between 4:30 and 5 PM that I called, so it’d be 9:30 PM to 10 PM…..both times still not in the “Peak” hours…so at the most it shouldn’t be more than $70….
I seriously want to try Vonage, because enough people here are saying it’s good, but my mom says someone told her “It’s bad!”, so because ONE person said it was bad, and she doesn’t remember who said it, she keeps saying no. A little fishy with the lack of information, huh? It’s as if she’s just makin’ it up! Ugh, my mom is so bull-headed….

I work for a company called Liberty International which is a new company who specializes in VoIP phone service. Check them out. They offer all of the same features as Von@ge with a competitive rate. The only difference is with Liberty International, if you refer three others to the service, your monthly phone bill will be waived!

I have this service for international calls and the prices are great. But I can not find out from the people that work there if it’s cheaper to call a landline or mobile with this service. I only have a mobile to call from and I like to run my mouth ;p
Would love it if someone knew for sure what’s best. I’m in the US and most of my calls are to Brazil.
Thanks!

Hi,

I have two lines at home. One is my regular line and the other is a Voip line. Now, since I’m able to make international calls using the Voip line for a fixed monthly rate, I would love to take advantage from it even when I’m not home.

I was thinking about having a device that will connect to both my regular (POTS) line and my Voip line. I would call in to my regular line from wherever I wish, and upon entering an agreed upon password get a dial tone on my Voip, giving me the ability to call international using my Voip monthly fixed rate.

Please note: I believe that I can use a Voip adapter so that the Voip line can be treated like a regular phone as well.

I’m not sure exactly what I’m looking for, although I know that there is the option of running a dedicated computer with Asterisk, for example, as a PBX. Well, first, I’m tottaly not familiar with Asterisk and PBXs in general. Second, I would like this device to be much smaller that a PC.

I would deeply appreciate any help.

Phone companys don’t make you aware that a regular phone line may only cost you $4.95 a month.
I have a fax machine at home and require at least a regular line for that fax.

My husband is in the military and it currently in Iraq due to the fact that there is no one monitoring the DSN phones he has to use a phone card on a pay phone, we have been using AT&T phone card and recharging it but i put $50 worth of minutes (1000 units) (witch ends up being $67 with tax and the recharging surcharge) and he only get to chat for around 80min or less if its more than 1 call. to me this is a little outrageous my father-in law can buy a $5 phone card from the Asian store and talk for at least 25min (also calling internationally). is there a phone card out there is is designed for military or what phone card has the best rate for calling from Iraq?
